It’s been a long time since 2006, when we released TurboGems, our favorite game made and designed by us at Ironcode.
As creators we all have different choices about our own work that we have created and for me personally this is the best game that we have done by a good margin.
For me, Turbogems felt great from the start as it appears and visibly relates to its aspired style plus graphics as a playful action arcade game.
Turbogems gameplay presents game players with restrained control sets yet the player has to display ability and timely action to score higher nevertheless. The gameplay is designed to slowly become tougher, really testing the player’s skill.
History
The idea we had when developing Turbogems was to evolve the Match-3 gameplay to a falling blocks game. In a sci-fi setting, gems would drop down on the player’s spaceship, presenting the player with choices on where to drop it and challenge him to do it in faster and faster times.
Blender 3d for Graphics
Most of the work for game UI and Interface was done in blender3d and rendered out as images in 2x pixel textures which were good for running smoothly in graphics cards of those times.
Various objects such as gems and animated background elements like asteroids were made in blender also few planets as well. Nebula and stars were done in 2d graphics editor.

Turbogems Game
Brother did a wondrous job with his programming skills on VFX with timely trophy presentations and VFX effects on successful scores by the player for enticing visual effects.
Brother also ensured a fine control on the game design and gameplay in Turbogems as well.
